Tufted rugs and mats
.. Trim excess thread..
One of the most popular craft items that you can make and sell is a tufted rug or mat. These are simple to create and can be made using a variety of different fabrics. You can find fabric at your local craft store or online. The sky is the limit when it comes to choosing a design for your rug or mat. You can go with a traditional look or something more modern.
The first step in creating your tufted rug or mat is to decide on the size that you want to make it. Once you have the dimensions, cut out a piece of fabric that is slightly larger than the finished size. This will give you some wiggle room when it comes time to sew everything together.
Next, lay out your fabric wrong side up on a flat surface. Using a pencil, draw lines across the fabric at regular intervals. These lines will be used as guidelines for where you will place your tufts of yarn later on. Once you have drawn all of your lines, take a sharp pair of scissors and cut slits along each one. Make sure that the slits are big enough so that they can easily accommodate the thickness of yarn that you will be using later on.
Tufting rugs is fairly simple; start by threading needle with strong thread and knotting at one end. Next, insert needle through backside (right side) of fabric at top line marking; pull through until knot stops at top surface. Now insert needle through same hole from front (wrong side) to back again – this forms first loop (or “tuft”). Do not pull too tight – just snug. Continue inserting needle in same manner – in through backside hole, out front hole, then in through front hole again – making sure each time to come out next to where last loop was pulled through. When all loops are in place along entire length of marked line, carefully turn work over so right side is facing up. To secure loops/tufts in place: holding work taut with one hand, use other hand to wrap thread around groupings several times; then knot off securely. Trim excess thread.
Textile dyeing
Tie-dyeing is a popular method of textile dyeing in which fabric is tied or knotted in certain areas before being dipped in dye. This creates patterns and designs on the fabric. Batik is another popular method of textile dyeing. In this method, hot wax is applied to areas of the fabric that should remain uncolored. The wax resists the dye when it is applied to the fabric, resulting in a design that has both colored and uncolored areas.
Block printing is a type of textile dyeing in which blocks or stamps are used to apply color to fabric. Screen printing is another common method of textile dyeing; it involves using a stencil and ink to create designs on fabric
Paper flowers
To get started, you’ll need some basic supplies including: paper (of course!), scissors, glue, wire (optional), and any other embellishments you’d like to use (ribbon, beads, etc.). Once you have your supplies gathered up, you’re ready to start creating!
There are endless possibilities when it comes to designing your paper flowers. You can keep them simple or get creative with color and texture. To achieve different looks, try using different types of paper such as tissue paper or crepe paper. You can also experiment with cutting the petals in different shapes – rounded or pointed – for added interest.
Once you’ve settled on your design, it’s time to start assembling your flower. Begin by cutting out your petals – you’ll need at least five per flower. Next, take one petal and begin folding it in half lengthwise. Continue folding until the petal is narrow enough to fit inside the other four petals. Apply a small amount of glue at the base of the petal and insert into the center of the other four petals. Hold everything in place until the glue dries completely.
Now it’s time to add some stems! If you’re using wire stems, simply insert them into the base of your flower before attaching leaves (if desired). If not using wire stems, simply roll a small piece of green construction paper into a thin “snake” shape and glue on to the back side of your flower for added support. Once everything is dry; fluff up your blossoms and enjoy!
Home fragrance
Diffusers are another popular home fragrance option. You can purchase diffusers that use essential oils, or you can make your own diffuser by adding essential oils to a bowl of water. Simply place the bowl of water in a room where you want the scent to be dispersed and enjoy the fresh smell throughout your home.
Potpourri is another great way to add fragrance to your home. You can purchase potpourri at most craft stores, or you can make it yourself using dried flowers and herbs. Simply place the potpourri in a bowl and enjoy the subtle scent it emits over time.
Face masks
Cloth Masks
One of the most popular types of face mask on the market is the cloth mask. Cloth masks are easy to make and can be customized to fit any style or personality. For example, you can sew a fabric pattern on the outside of the mask or add embellishments like beads or sequins. You can also make cloth masks with different straps, such as ties or elastic bands. The sky’s the limit when it comes to designing your own unique cloth mask!
Here’s a basic tutorial for sewing a simple cloth mask:
1. Cut two pieces of fabric that are each 8”x11” in size. Fold each piece in half so that it measures 4 x 5 ½ “and press with an iron. Then unfold each piece so that you have two rectangles of fabric folded in half lengthwise with creases down the center.?
2.?Using a ruler and chalk, draw 2 ½ “long curved lines at each end of both rectangles.? These will be your pattern pieces for cutting out your mask shape later on.? If you have trouble free handing curved lines, use a circular object like a cup or bowl as a template.? Just trace around the edge with chalk to create perfect curves.?
3.?Cut out along your drawn lines to create two large teardrop shapes from each rectangle of fabric.? These will be your main front and back pieces for your mask (you should now have four total).?
4.?To create loops for attaching elastic bands (or ties), cut two 1”x4” strips from any leftover scraps of fabric.? Fold each strip in half lengthwise and press down with an iron again; then open up one side so that you have two long tubes folded over at one end only (these should look kind
