DIY Birch Vase. 3 13
A vase is a great way to add a touch of nature to your home décor, and this DIY birch vase is the perfect way to do it! Made from a real birch log, this vase is easy to make and adds a beautiful natural element to any room.
To make your own DIY birch vase, start by finding a suitable log. It should be about 6-8 inches in diameter and be free of any major knots or blemishes. Cut the log into sections that are about 6 inches long, then use a drill to create two holes in the center of each section. These holes will be used to thread your twine or ribbon through later on.
Next, use sandpaper to smooth out the surface of each section of log. Once all of the sections are sanded, begin assembling them by threading your twine or ribbon through the holes you drilled earlier. Tie each section securely in place, then arrange them however you like – we think an asymmetrical design looks best!
Finally, fill your new DIY birch vase with fresh flowers or greenery and enjoy!

Wood Slice Ornament. 5 13
This holiday season, ditch the store-bought ornaments and opt for a homemade touch. These wood slice ornaments are not only easy to make, but add a rustic vibe to your tree that you just can’t get from mass produced decorations. All you need is a little bit of time and some supplies that you probably already have around the house.
Start by collecting some fallen branches or logs from your yard. If you don’t have any trees on your property, ask a neighbor if you can collect some of their fallen branches. Once you have your wood, use a saw to cut it into thin slices. The thickness of the slices will depend on how big you want your finished ornament to be. A good rule of thumb is to make them about 1/4 inch thick.
Once all of your slices are cut, it’s time to start decorating! This is where you can really let your creativity shine. You can paint the wood slices with traditional holiday colors like red and green, or get creative with different designs and patterns. If painting isn’t really your thing, try using stamps or markers to create fun designs on the wood slices. Once they’re all decorated, use a hole punch to make a small hole at the top of each slice so you can thread through some string or twine later on.
Finally, it’s time to put everything together! Lay out all of your decorated wood slices on a flat surface and arrange them in whatever pattern you like best. Once they’re arranged how you want them, use hot glue (or another strong adhesive) to attach each slice together side by side until they’re all connected into one big panel. Let the glue dry completely before moving on to the next step.
Now comes the fun part – hanging up your beautiful new ornament! Simply thread some string or twine through the holes at the top of each slice and knot it off once it’s run through all of them evenly Find a spot on your tree for hanging (or wherever else you’d like to display it) and enjoy showing off your handy work this holiday season!
Card Holder. 6 13
One of the great things about wood is that it can be used for so many different things. Regarding Christmas, there are endless possibilities for what you can make out of wood. From simple ornaments to elaborate displays, the sky is the limit when it comes to crafting with wood.
One idea that would be perfect for Christmas is a card holder. This can be a small, tabletop display or a larger freestanding piece. Either way, it’s a great way to show off all your holiday cards in one place. Plus, it’s a handy way to keep track of who you need to send cards to next year!
To make a wooden card holder, you’ll need some basic supplies like wood boards, saws, sandpaper, screws or nails, and paint or stain (optional). You’ll also need some wire or string to create the hangers for your cards. Once you have all your materials gathered together, simply follow these steps:
1) Cut your wood boards into pieces that will form the frame of your card holder. If desired, you can s and down the edges of each piece for a smoother finish.
2) Assemble the frame using screws or nails and set it aside.
3) Cut lengths of wire or string and create loops at each end. These will be used as hangers for your cards. Attach them evenly around the inside perimeter of your frame using glue or tape (make sure they’re secure!). Alternatively, you could also use small brads or eye hooks instead of wire hangers. Just make sure whatever you use won’t damage any cards that come in contact with it over time.
